McLaren, the British manufacturer of supercars plans to replace the actual 650S model with a new supercar in 2018, Autocar UK reports.
The new model codenamed P14 is expected to McLaren’s carbonfibre tub and a 3.8 liter engine assisted by two superchargers. Output of the supercar was now unveiled but it is expected to exceed 641bhpof that we do have today in the 650S model.
A peak power of 660 hp would put the new supercar in direct competition with the actual Ferrari 488 and on the same time will allow the 675LT to crown McLaren’s Super Series range.
Keep in mind that the flagship 675LT model is limited to just 500 units and from this perspective there’s a good chance that McLaren may choose to surpass the 666hp mark with the new P14.
0 to 100 km/h should take less than 3 seconds and the model should hit a top speed of about 330 km/h.
There are no indications regarding the design of the supercar, but Autocar reports that is expected to have a clean slate for McLaren, as well as setting the company’s design template for its next batch of models.
According to Frank Stephenson, McLaren design director – the upcoming P14 would be even “even crazier” than the P1 hypercar. What exactly means that we actually don’t know.
Besides the “normal” variant – an open top model is also planned to be produced, but it will not be launched on the same time as happened when McLaren launched the 650S during the Geneva Motor show in both Spider and Coupé.
Price? Unknown yet – but expect to exceed £200k mark for the coupe and £220 for the Spider variant.
