The British based automaker McLaren has won the International Engine of the Year award for the category of 3 liter to 4 liter.
During the same event where the 1.0 liter EcoBoost was named the 2013 International Engine of the year, in its category, McLaren has also managed to won the same award, but for a different category, that of 3 liter to 4 liter. The unit which will “enjoy the award” is the 3.8 liter V8, fitted on the MP4-12C, the 12C Spyder and even on the brand new P1, where it’s being helped by the electric motor.
The 2013 International Engine of the Year awards were voted by 87 jounralists from around the world. The McLaren 3.8 liter engine is a twin turbo V8, which is producing a total output of 592 HP at 7,000 rpm and it has a peak torque of 443 lb-ft, available between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm. These figures are found on the MP4-12C and on the 12C Spyder. The 0 to 62 mph sprint in the MP4-12C takes just 3.3 seconds and top speed stands at 205 mph.
