McLaren’s upcoming 720S engine teased image

The British automaker hasn’t been able to keep a lid on the secret, but they’re still adamant about fulfilling the goals of their teasing campaigns.

Thus here we present yet another teaser designed to stir our passion as we wait to see what McLaren has in line for the 650S successor, thus coming as the second generation Super Series. The teaser is delivering quite a bit of information – the rumored 720S (name not confirmed, only leaked) will come with a newly developed biturbo 4.0-liter V8 codenamed “M840T,” and as it turns out the engine will have an illuminated bay that glows in red after you unlock the car.

Naturally, there are scarcely any details about the new mill – but as we saw in the leaked images there was a 720S badge at the back. This means the cars that were leaked from private events suggest the new generation will have 720 PS (710 horsepower / 530 kilowatts).

Naturally, torque should also be up compared to the 650S’ 3.8-liter V8 unit that has 500 pound-feet (678 Newton-meters). McLaren has intentionally spilled the beans before on the 124 mph (200 km/h) sprint for the new arrival, taking place in just 7.8 seconds – which is 0.6 seconds faster than its predecessor. The quarter mile time is also down by 0.2 seconds for a 10.3 seconds run – with the new V8 delivering in the process a “soulful, clean and crisp exhaust note that is among the most emotive of any McLaren.”
