McLaren has unveiled an updated version of the MP4-12C supercar, named the GT3, which will enter competition later on this year.
According to the British based automaker, the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is getting an upgraded ECU, an improved electrical system, an upgraded cooling system, new dampers and a revised aerodynamics package, which will improve the model’s efficiency and reliability. The new version will be offered to international GT teams, unlike last year’s variant, which was only available to European GT teams. The MP4-12C GT3 will also become available to non-race users and to collectors.
McLaren says that the 2013 MP4-12C GT3 will be used by Sebastien Loeb Racing and by Clearwater Racing and the supercar is coming with the same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine, mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. The 2013 model year will be more powerful than the 2012 version, which was producing 500 HP (368 kW), but McLaren didn’t announce anything on this subject just yet. The official starting price of the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C GT3 has been set at 325,000 GBP, which can be translated into 389,780 euros or 518,930 USD.
