Audi has officially introduced the brand new R8 LMX, which is getting the laser headlight technology.
BMW and Audi have been in a constant war of words on which brand will launch the first production vehicle which will be getting the laser headlight and it seems that the company with the headquarters in Ingolstadt will be the winner, because the R8 LMX has been recently unveiled. This is getting four high power laser diodes which are “offering” a white light at a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin.
“The transfer of the laser headlight to the Audi R8 LMX underscores our leading position in lighting technology. The safety benefit this provides to the customer truly represents Vorsprung durch Technik”, said Ulrich Hackenberg, the Audi AG board of member for Development.
The new lights added to the Audi R8 LMX are activated at 60 km/h (37 mph) and the model in question is also getting a camera based sensor system, which can detect other cars and it will adjust the pattern not to “exclude them”. The R8 LMX has carbon fiber goodies added to its body, 19-inch alloy wheels, carbon ceramic discs, Fine Nappa leather in the cabin, Sepang Blue contrast, Alcantara headliner, Ara Blue accents, illuminated door sill plates and matter carbon fiber trim. Power is coming from a 570HP (419kW) and 540Nm (398 lb-ft) 5.2L V10.
