The most expensive Chinese car ever sold is named the Hongqi L5 and it was recently bought for an impressive 5 million yuan, or the equivalent of 800,000 USD.
Did you think that Chinese are lacking on internally produced expensive vehicles? Well, think again, because the model pictured below is named the Hongqi L5 and it has been recently sold for the equivalent of 800,000 USD. According to the local automotive media, the model in question was sold initially to the Chinese government to replace the luxury foreign cars and it’s now available to civilians too. The first private customer of such a vehicle is an anonymous businessman.
The Hongqi L5 is produced by China’s FAW Group and it has a 6.0 liter V12 aluminum made engine under its hood. The unit is developing a total output of 402 HP (302 kW) and 548 m (405 lb-ft) of torque. This is being sent to the “intelligent” all-wheel drive system through a 6-speed automatic transmission. Top speed of the model stands at 200 km/h (124 mph) and the average fuel consumption is said to be 20 liters / 100 km (14.1 mpg UK / 11.7 mpg US). The Hongqi L5 is 5,555 mm long, 2,018 mm wide and 1,578 mm tall, with a 3,435 mm long wheelbase and a total weight of 3,175 kg.
