Daimler’s Mercedes-AMG division has recently taken the wraps off its latest creation – the C43 Coupe, scheduled to make its worldwide public premiere during next week’s Geneva Motor Show.
Tasked to take on the Audi S5, the new C43 Coupe comes with a dynamic front end wearing a diamond radiator grille and bigger air intakes. The model is also adding black mirror caps, matte iridium silver accents, and comes with a special sports exhaust system. Other highlights worth mentioning are the trunk-mounted spoiler, rear diffuser and 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The cabin is largely a well known affair because it’s very close to the regular Coupe but the designers and engineers came with a flat-bottom steering wheel and MB-Tex / DINAMICA microfiber sport seats with red contrast stitching. There’s also aluminum trim, red seat belts, and a fresh take on the instrument cluster with an included checkered flag motif.
Power is no surprise as well since the model has been doing the rounds of the rumor mill for quite some time and the engine has already been used for various other iterations in the company’s roster. We’re talking about the biturbo 3.0-liter V6 engine churning out 62 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission and sending all the grunt to a tail-happy all-wheel drive system. That’s good for a zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in 4.6 seconds and an electronically-governed maximum speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Ride and handling is being provided by the AMG Ride Control sport suspension and there’s also the AMG Dynamic Select system with Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual settings. The engineers also came up with a speed-modified sport steering system and a high-performance braking system with internally ventilated compound discs measuring 14.2 inches up front and 12.6 inches out back.
