Mercedes-Benz A-Class Convertible coming next year image

The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz is working on a convertible version of the A-Class which will rival to the BMW 1-Series Convertible, Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet and Audi A3 Cabriolet, and the new model is expected to go on sale next year, along with a new family of compact cars, like the B-Class, the A-Class hatch, a baby CLS and a rival to the BMW X1 SUV.

According to Autoexpress.co.uk, the Mercedes A-Class Cabrio will go on sale next year and the vehicle will rival vehicles like the BMW 1-Series Convertible, VW Golf Cabriolet and Audi A3 Cabriolet. But the convertible version of the A-Class won’t be the only surprise which the German automaker has for us.

Autoexpress.co.uk also says the Mercedes-Benz will also launch a rival to the BMW X1 and the baby CLS, which might actually get the BLS name, being a four-door coupe based on the luxurious CLS.

The new A-Class Convertible is expected to have the 1.6 liter petrol and 1.8 liter diesel engine, with 109 and 136 horsepower, along with a larger turbo unit which will deliver 200 horsepower. According to the British website, the AMG version will also be available with all-wheel drive and 350 horsepower, so we might actually be witnesses to the birth of the VW Golf R Cabrio.

There’s no word on the price or performance yet but considering that Autoexpress.co.uk says that the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Convertible will go on sale next year, the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012 might be the perfect place to unveil the newest model in the lineup.
