The upcoming premium hot hatch with the Mercedes-Benz logo on it, the A45 AMG, is expected to get a 330 horsepower engine.
According to sources within Mercedes-Benz, the company is getting ready to launch a high performance version of the new A-Class generation, which will be named the A45 AMG and will use a transversal mounted four-cylinder engine, similar to the one adopted by the A250. The same sources are saying that the new engine has been developed in a partnership with High Performance Engine, and thanks to some significant improvements, the unit is developing a total output of 330 horsepower and it has a peak torque of 400 Nm.
The future engine which will equip the A45 AMG will be the most powerful four-cylinder unit ever to power a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, and the model will go against the Audi RS3, but it will have a significant advantage compared to the five-cylinder engine used by the competition on the hot hatch. Another target is the BMW M135i, and sources within Mercedes-Benz are saying that the A45 AMG will be similar in performance to the BMW model, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. More details on the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG will probably be announced in late 2012.
