Mercedes-Benz EQ A concept teased for Frankfurt presentation image

The 2017 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show is being graced by Mercedes-Benz with the extremes – the car shared Smart Vision EQ ForTwo and the highly anticipated Project One hypercar.

But the automaker knows best to also place something in between – namely a new concept from the electric EQ range to sit next to the already introduced EQ crossover. The “EQ” name will be used by the company’s electric offerings, and after the trademark appeared last year it was immediately followed by the introduction of the Generation EQ concept at the Paris Motor Show. Now Mercedes is following up with the EQ A concept, presented by this teaser, which acts as a small electric hatchback, possibly related to the A Class, given the use of the moniker.

The new EQ prototype might also signal the impending release of the sub-brand’s first production series model, because from what we can tell in this teaser at least the front end looks ready for the assembly line, with minimal modifications to the showcar allure. The details on the new EQ concept are scarce – and we can only speculate the crossover and this “small electric vehicle” will share technical traits, such as a possible new, specifically developed platform.
