Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept to be unveiled in Shanghai

The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce a concept version of the GLA this year, during the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, in a world premiere.

Rumors on Mercedes-Benz developing an SUV smaller than the GL-Class have been around ever since early 2012 but until now no one knew exactly when the model might make its public debut, until now, when new rumors are saying that the vehicle will be officially presented to the public during the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, in concept form, for the first time. The production version of the GLA isn’t far away and it will make its debut this September, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, an announcement made by the company’s boss, Dieter Zetsche, during a press conference.

The Mercedes-Benz chairman didn’t give any details on the GLA but if we should judge by the spy photos than we can say that the model is based on the same platform used on the new A-Class, new B-Class and CLA. The Mercedes-Benz GLA will get a four-cylinder engine on its entry-level version and higher specs are expected to receive all-wheel drive system. The Mercedes-Benz GLA will rival the BMW X1 or the Audi Q3. More details on the model are limited for the moment.
