Mercedes-Benz has recently confirmed all rumors saying that the new small compact crossover will be named the GLA.
According to the German based automaker, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA will use the same platform as the new A-Class and B-Class, the MFA, and it will be officially presented to the public next year in the United States, probably at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA will go against models like the Range Rover Evoque and, even if its engines will probably be pulled from the A-Class and B-Class, the model is expected to be sportier.
Rumors are saying that the new Mercedes-Benz GLA will be offered with a four-cylinder engine on the entry-level version, which will generate a total output of 211 horsepower, mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It’s unclear whether the power will be sent to the front wheels or to an all-wheel drive system, but this will be clarified close to its launch but, in order to stay close to its future competitors like the Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q3 or BMW X1, the model definitely needs AWD. Unfortunately we don’t have any more details on the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA, so we will have to wait for early next year, when the model will finally be presented.
