Mercedes-Benz Global Sales Up 5.1% in January image

Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker has sold a total of 94,526 units worldwide, thus exceeding the previous year’s record by another 5.1 percent.

In the United States, Mercedes sales rose 24 percent to 20,306, as deliveries of its C-Class model surged 56 percent, the automaker said. The 9th generation E-Class followed with sales of 4,097 and the versatile M-Class rounded out the top three with sales of 4,002, up 61.1%.

Total diesel units sold in 2012 in U.S. numbered 1,327, a 62.0% increase over the same period last year (819).

Overall sales in China (incl. Hong Kong) totaled 14,463 units (-7.0%).

In its home market, Germany, Mercedes sold 12,627 vehicles, corresponding a growth of 14.0%. This development was driven in particular by the high demand for the new B-Class, which led its segment in the new vehicle registration statistics of Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in January.

At 21,578 units, Mercedes-Benz’ sales in Western Europe (excluding Germany) were over previous year’s level (+1.4%).
