Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce a direct rival for the Porsche 911, which will be actually cheaper that its competitor by approximately 30, 000 euros.
Mercedes-Benz has had enough of the premium sedan market or the SUVs segment and wants to play at a different level, and the car to help it with this plan will be named the GT AMG. The model in question will become a direct rival for the popular Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz wants to steal its competitor’s customers by offering its sports car 30,000 euros cheaper than the 911. The new Mercedes-Benz GT AMG will receive an aluminum body and its total weight will stand at 1.5 tons.
Power to the Mercedes-Benz GT AMG is believed to be provided by a new 4-liter twin turbo V8 engine, which is expected to produce a total output of 500 HP. The model should get a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 3kg/1HP, similarly to what Porsche is offering on the 911. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint of the GT AMG could be made in less than 4 seconds and top speed will stand at more than 300 km/h. More details on Mercedes’ answer to the Porsche 911 are limited for the moment.
