The Daimler unit has recorded its best monthly sales ever in March, posting a global gain of 13%, as its new compact cars sparked rising interest among consumers.
The 13% jump amounts to 158,523 vehicles delivered, which also contribute to form the best first quarter in the Stuttgart-based carmaker’s history (374,276 cars, up 15.2%). The four-model line-up of the compact series has decidedly contributed to the 10% surge Mercedes had over the past nine consecutive months.
“We are continuing the success story of the record year 2013 with additional new products and have posted the best-ever first-quarter sales in the company’s history,” said Ola Kaellenius, head of sales and marketing. “We have been posting double-digit growth rates for sales in every month since the beginning of the year. We expect added impetus from the new C-Class and the compact SUV GLA, which have been taking over the roads of Europe in the last few weeks.”
The compact line – formed of the A, B, CLA and GLA Series (the latter only introduced last month) had sales increases of 26 % to reach 43,349, while the range topping S Class doubled its sales during the first quarter to 24,144 vehicles.
The company is slowly recovering sale sin Europe, with a 7.6% growth to 76,587 vehicles last month, while the US keeps giving good results: up 11.2% to 27,401 units. Even Japan is a strong performer now, with sales surging 50.3% to 17,807 units. China has grown 34% as well, reaching a tally of 24,937 cars.
