Bentley has opened a new chapter in the automotive industry with its Bentayga and one of the first carmakers to be planning a rival for it is Mercedes-Benz.
The German based brand is being reportedly looking into the development of a new V12 supercar, which will have the tough job of competing against the Lamborghini Aventador SV and the upcoming Ferrari F12 Speciale, but the carmaker isn’t stopping its future vehicle lineup planning as a new report is indicating. According to Automotive News Europe, a rival for the Bentley Bentayga is being planned by the 3-pointed star.
The announcement has been made by Andreas Zygan, the director of development for SUVs in the German brand, who said that there is enough demand in this segment for vehicles to be growing. The U.S. sales boss, Steve Cannon, has added that an ultra-luxurious Mercedes SUV would be a “natural fit”. He also added that there is an “incredible number” of GL SUVs which are being ordered in top trim levels. Chances are BMW will develop its own rival of the Bentley Bentayga, the so-called X7, which has been rumored for a lot of years now. The Bentayga has been officially unveiled during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The model is making use of a 6.0 liter TSI W12 engine under its hood, which is producing 608 HP (447 kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), this needs just a little over 4 seconds. The Bentayga has the most expensive optional feature in the automotive industry, a premium clock, which is worth over 200,000 euros.
