Mercedes-Benz scored a 10% increase in its August sales with 118,887 units delivered thanks to continued strong demand for its compact models, but also due to increased deliveries in China and the U.S.
For the past eight months the automaker’s deliveries have gone up 12% to 1.03 million cars sold worldwide. Last month, sales for the Smart brand grew 9% to 124,663 units.
Ola Kaellenius, Mercedes’ global sales chief said that “The sales from the first eight months put the car brand on course to make 2014 another record year“
Kaellenius added that the launch of new models in September, including the C-class sedan in China and the U.S. and also the S-class coupe and C-class wagon in Europe will also contribute to further boosting the sales for Mercedes in 2014.
Mercedes has expanded its compact vehicle range, which rose 29% in August to 33,012 units and the carmaker announced it will add a fifth compact model with the CLA shooting brake in 2015.
Mercedes’ sales in China increased 18% to 21,398 last month, while the eight-month China sales this year grew 31.5% to 178,241 units sold. In the United States, which is the carmaker’s number one market, sales inched up 9% to 27,078 in August, scoring an 8% increase in 2014 up until now to 205,894 cars sold. The European sales scored a modest rebound, with overall sales growing 5% to 45,661 vehicles.
