Mercedes-Benz SL comes out ahead of world premiere in LA image

Mercedes-Benz has decided not to wait for the press days of the Los Angeles Auto Show and has officially unveiled online the updated SL roadster, with the public premiere just days away on the floor of the US event.

The automaker has even decided to showcase the entire range of the model – the standard guise, the AMG 63 and flagship grade AMG 65 variants. What we can see the new regular SL will come with a bigger diamond grille, the LED headlights taking numerous cues from the AMG GT and the front bumper is coming with added flair and sportiness thanks to the increase size of the air intakes. The rear has refreshed taillights all-red graphics, a new – larger – diffuser and some chrome exhaust tips for good measure.

Meanwhile the performance-oriented SL AMG 63 packs a changed radiator grille, as well as carbon fiber touches on both bumpers and the side sills. The multi-spoke black wheels come assorted with Continental ContiSportContact tires. The top of the line SL AMG 65 adds silver accents on the bumpers, polished multi-spoke wheels and some V12 BiTurbo badges for anyone to take notice.

Inside the customers will see even more modifications, with a larger display for the infotainment system, a changed watch on the dashboard, carbon fiber trim when choosing one of the AMG variants and a new controller for the driving modes. The latter comes with five different pre-sets – Individual, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race. Technical details are still scarce but the carmaker has hinted at “more powerful engines” and the usage of the 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox to go with the Active Body Control system with curve tilting feature.
