At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz will present the newest addition to its family of electric vehicles, the Concept B-Class Electric Drive.
This concept vehicle is one of the first models to use the term „Electric Drive” into its model designation. From now on, all-battery powered electric cars from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG and smart will use this name.
The Concept B-Class Electric Drive offers the same amount of space inside as the more conventional versions, as it benefits from the so-called Energy Space in the floor of the vehicle in front of the rear axle. The Energy Space accommodates the lithium-ion battery while also helping to lower the car’s center of gravity.
Powered by a 100 kW electric motor which develops 310 Nm of torque, the Concept B-Class has a range of 200 kilometers. The battery can be charged at any standard domestic 230 V power outlet or alternatively – with rapid charging function – at a 400 V high-voltage terminal. According to Mercedes-Benz, the car is almost ready for mass production, with the market launch already planned for 2014.
The Paris Motor Show will host two other „green” world premieres for Daimler: the production versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive and the smart BRABUS electric drive.
