The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz is planning on developing a direct rival for the Audi TT.
When the Audi TT came out in its first generation quite a few years back, critics were hating it, stating that it was a car suitable for a young hair dresser, but after proving that it has what it needs to stay in the segment, time has come for one of the greatest rivals of Audi to plan a model which will take aim directly at this car. We’re talking about Mercedes-Benz which is rumored to develop its very own Audi TT rival as this has been confirmed by a source within the company to Autocar.
The position of the Audi TT rival has been taken by the SLK and the development of a direct competitor may mean that the fate of the roadster may be jeopardized. Officials within Mercedes-Benz are stating that there are no plans of killing the SLK at this point but chances are this will be replaced by a newer model in the future. The new Audi TT competitor will first roll off in a coupe body style and it will be shortly followed by a roadster too. As far as the engine lineup goes, expect the 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit, signed by AMG, in the most exciting version. This may produce up to 400 HP and it will be connected to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, sending power to all four-wheels.
