The company has decided to officially put an end to speculation by presenting the Mercedes EQ A in teaser form – and considering this is a concept, we’re pretty sure the sketch is quite close to reality.
The concept in itself is mere days way from being presented in front of the worldwide audience of the Frankfurt Motor Show, again highlighting (next to the Smart Vision EQ ForTwo) its desire to enter the green race – their billion euros strategy investment includes ten electric cars for 2025. Among them will be a production series model based on the upcoming Mercedes Concept EQ A, which has been teased on multiple occasions already. But all of them were mysteriously letting out just bits and pieces – now the cat is out of the back entirely with this front sketch.
What we have here is a racy hatchback that could actually serve as a preview for the next generation A Class just as well, though in production form it will more likely be a niche competitor going against the premium BMW i3. The EQ design traits – illuminated grille and tri-star badge – are also present, and we’ll just have to wait for the official reveal to see the rear and the cabin. There’s also no technical information, so we still don’t know if the EQ A will go head to head with the i3 and feature an urban range, or try to fight off the Tesla Model 3, Leaf and Chevy Bolt with a comparable efficiency.
