Mercedes Global Sales up 4pct in May [table] image

Mercedes-Benz again posted a new record for unit sales in May 2012. The German carmaker sold 113,136 new vehicles worldwide in May – up 4.0 percent compared to the same period of 2011.

The company sold a total of 577,378 Mercedes-Benz, smart, and Maybach brand vehicles (+8.0%) in the period from January to May.

“We are on track to meet our target of selling more vehicles in 2012 than ever before in a single year,” Mercedes-Benz sales chief Joachim Schmidt said in a statement.

– Mercedes-Benz brand January-to-May car sales up 8.4% at 531,382 vehicles.
– Smart brand May car sales down 6.9% at 9,464 vehicles.
