The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is quite old already, but when it comes to four-wheel-drive luxobarges you just can’t get it wrong when selecting the German behemoth. You could though wait a little longer for the arrival of the opulent Grand Edition in the United States.
First made available at home in Europe last year, the lavish Grand Edition model is now set to cross the Atlantic to the United States halfway through 2018. The Grand Edition models will arrive with fancy elements such as the Nappa leather upholstery in Porcelain white, complete with diamond quilting, and also special sections of Espresso Brown hides to accent the cabin. Even the dashboard is leather-wrapped, while open-pore brown ash wood trim and Espresso Brown velour floor mats complete the luxury appearance.
If customers select the GLS450 4Matic, the Grand Edition package will also include 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels with a two-tone finish and the Mercedes-proprietary LED Intelligent Light System. Go for the even more expensive and powerful GLS550 4Matic, and the SUV will travel on 21-inch wheels, and light its way with the Active LED headlights. The GLS – just like the G Class arriving at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit – is soon up for replacement, the next generation most likely arriving late this year or early in 2019.
