At this year’s CES, Mercedes-Benz announced it will integrated Apple’s intelligent assistant Siri into its new E-Class for drivers with iPhone 4S.
To be able to use Siri while driving, the only thing a user must do is to connect the iPhone 4S to the vehicle using the “Drive Kit Plus” option. Once connected the driver has access to the iPhone 4S’ content, which will appear on the vehicle’s screen through the “Digital DriveStyle App” developed by Mercedes-Benz.
Customers will have access to the Drive Kit Plus software and hardware at the beginning of spring 2013. The automaker said that a future version of the Drive Kit Plus will also include Siri Eyes Free mode. The Eyes Free mode, allows drivers with iOS 6-equipped devices to use Siri in order to access and operate the vehicle’s infotainment system.
GM, also announced its collaboration with Apple, being the first automaker to offer full functionality of Siri in a car, offering drivers the possibility to connect their iO6 iPhone to MyLink via Bluetooth, just like Ford’s Sync voice-activation system. Drivers of Spark and Sonic models will be able to access a variety of features only by using their voice, minimizing distraction.
