Mercedes unveiled today the 2011 Silver Arrow, the MGP W02 mono-post. The official debut will be held in Valencia on Tuesday 1 February at the first Formula One winter test.
The new car, which will sport numbers 7 and 8 during the 2011 season, will be presented by Michael and Nico at an early morning photo-call in front of the team’s garage.
The launch of the MGP W02 is much more low key than the launch of its 2010 challenger, which was the first full works effort from Mercedes since the 1950s.
Mercedes has stuck with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher for 2011. In 2010 the 42-year-old failed to reach the podium in 19 races in 2010 and was completely outshone by Nico Rosberg who finished the campaign 70 points ahead of the German veteran. Still, seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher believes that 2011 will be his year.
“Absolutely,” Schumacher fired back during an interview with F1 Racing magazine, when asked if he expects to be world champion again. “We have a three-year project. Very clearly right now, we are not where we want to be, [but] we’ve put a lot of effort into coming back and we are optimistic we have a chance.
