Since 2011, the deliveries of Mercedes line of sport utility models have more than doubled, and with their help the automaker is on track to reclaim the title of top selling luxury automaker in the world this year.
In August alone Mercedes jumped 11.8 percent to 156,000 units and for January to August period the carmaker is at 11.7 percent above the figures posted during the same period last year, with a total of 1,326,635 autos. SUVs alone skyrocketed last month by 40 percent, which is why Mercedes is celebrating the four million units milestone right now, after sales more than doubled since 2011. “Mercedes-Benz has already delivered more than four million SUVs to customers worldwide,” said Ola Kallenius, member of the board of management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing and sales. “Their popularity is rising year on year.”
The trend should continue in the years to come as the automaker prepares even more options for the buyers – first off will be the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe, expected during the first months of next year. Afterwards the GLA crossover will be refreshed and a coupe version is expected to follow suite – while the company is also going to reveal its first ever pickup truck before the start of 2018.
