The North American based automaker Chevrolet has announced a milestone for the Spark as the 1 millionth model has been recently sold.
Chevrolet has managed to sell no less than 1 million units of the Spark worldwide. The announcement has been recently made by the company. Available in an electric version too, the smallest model ever produced by Chevrolet is seeing a huge popularity in markets such as the United States, Mexico or South Korea.
“Our small cars – Spark, Sonic and Cruze – attract more new car buyers to Chevrolet than any other vehicles in the lineup, with more than 60 percent of buyers never owning a Chevy before”, said the company’s executive vice president, Alan Batey.
The Chevrolet Spark, originally known as the Daewoo Matiz, has been in production since 1998. The model is available in a five-door hatchback body style, with a transverse front-engine and front-wheel drive layout. The second generation of the model has been introduced back in 2005 and it was replaced in 2009 by the third version. The vehicle is known as the Daewoo Matiz Creative, in South Korea, as the Chevrolet Spark in Europe, North America, South Korea and the Middle East, the Chevrolet Spark GT in several markets of South America, the Chevrolet Beat in India and the Holden Barina Spark in Australia and New Zealand. The model is being produced in South Korea, India, Uzbekistan, Colombia and Vietnam.
