Mitsubishi might pull a surprise on the next-gen ASX and use the EVO badge on it, according to a new report.
The Japanese based automaker Mitsubishi is planning on reinventing itself and after losing ground to its main competitors it has some big plans for its future models. We all know that the Lancer and the Lancer Evolution are one step closer to becoming history and this fact has been already confirmed by the carmaker but it seems that the “Evolution” badge will live on, just not on a performance sedan or hatchback, as expected.
According to a recent report published by AutoExpress, the bosses from the car manufacturer stated that the EVO name might make a comeback on the next generation of the ASX. The model in question will basically be a hotter version of the standard crossover but this still has to be approved for production. We expect a modified suspension, probably a tweaked chassis, a hot engine under its hood and a new body kit to make it differentiate from the standard models even more.
As far as the regular ASX’s new generation, this is said to come with four-wheel drive sometimes next year but at a later date, the compact crossover will also bring the plug-in hybrid technology and a two-wheel drive layout. In terms of looks, the model will be inspired by the XR-PHEV II Concept, which has been unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Additional details on it remain unknown at this time.
