Gayu Eusegi, the Mitsubishi Global Product Director has announced that the company will put an end to the all wheel drive turbocharged Lancer Evolution. It was one of the best models that Mitsubishi has ever produced.

To calm down the brand fans, the president and CEO of the company, Osamu Masuko has said that the Evo X would not be the last of the Evolutions. Masuko has informed the Japanese magazine, Best Car that Mitsubishi is fully intent on producing a high-performance car in the future.

As per the last rumor, the Evo XI would be a diesel-electric hybrid. If the rumor is true, then this powertrain would let the car to make a sprint of 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds. On the other hand, the car will also receive better fuel-economy as compared to the existing Evo. Besides, the PX-MiEV concept which was unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show seems to fit itself into the EVO XI. This technology will allow the car to accommodate a 1.6 liter gasoline engine mated with an electric motor. The electric motor will be powered by a set of lithium-ion batteries.

The electric motors will power the vehicle at low to middle speeds, while the engine will kick on at high speeds. Also, the engine will also provide back up for the motors when their charge runs low.

Most probably, the hybrid system will be combined with Mitsubishi’s S-AWC all-wheel-drive system.
