Monster Sports has officially pulled the wraps off their brand new E-Runner for Pikes Peak Special, which was developed specifically for this race.
According to the guys at Monster Sports, the E-Runner for Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is coming with an aircraft inspired jet canopy and with a carbon fiber composite body, while riding on an aluminum space frame. Monster Sports says that the E-Runner Pikes Peak Special is also coming with a high performance braking system and with all-wheel drive.
“Tajima’s Monster Sport is bringing a newly-designed electric hill climb car called the 2012 E-Runner Pikes Peak Special. It was developed by Tajima’s elite team of engineers specifically for the 90th running of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Tajima is teaming up with the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV) and its chairman, Souichiro Fukutake”, as the company is saying in its official press release.
The Monster Sports E-Runner Pikes Peak Special is being powered by two electric motors which are mated to a lithium-ion battery. Monster Sports didn’t release any specifications on their E-Runner racer for obvious reasons but the vehicle has posted times of 4:14,786 and 4:13.343 during the practice runs on Thursday. The E-Runner Pikes Peak Special will be driven by Nobuhiro Tajima, who has won the competition for six consecutive years and eleven times since 1988.
