Billionaire Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla Motors, vowed everybody once again by boldly stating that its electric car manufacturer would win the forefront to the autonomous car game.
Right after the earnings report on the fourth quarter of Tesla, Musk started to discuss the company’s future, including the huge battery “gigafactory” and the upcoming third car – Model X. He also admitted to the reported Apple meeting and said they would lead the way in the new autonomous segment.
“We had conversations with Apple. I can’t comment on whether those revolved around any kind of acquisition,” Musk told Bloomberg TV.
Musk made another interesting and bold statement in which he said he expects Tesla to be “the first company to market with significant autonomous driving function in the vehicles.”
He also made things a little more clear by saying they are not working on a true autonomous car like Google’s venture, but rather on adding an “autopilot” function, similar to the one used in the aircraft industry. The car would be capable of entering the “autopilot” mode for periods of time, but the driver could assume control any time.
