Nascar Kobalt Tools 400 starts today image

Today at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Sprint Cup series will begin. The event is the only Cup race there this season.

Matt Kenseth will start from the pole, an extreme rarity for the driver who usually qualifies towards the middle or back of the pack eventually making his way to the front. For Kenseth it is his fifth pole in 403 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and his first in 2011 and at LVMS.

Fellow Ford driver Marcos Ambrose was second. Kenseth’s Roush-Fenway teammates Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle took the second row, while Kyle Busch was fifth.

Virginia natives Denny Hamlin and Jeff Burton will both take part in the Kobalt Tools 400 NASCAR race.

Favorites to win Kobalt Tools 400
Carl Edwards might have wrecked last week in Phoenix, but he was fast. One thing to note is that Edwards’ pit crew was having a lot of trouble fuelling Saturday and it could come back to haunt them. Carl succeeded to finish second at Daytona, then winning the pole and solidifying himself as the driver to beat at Phoenix.

Another favorite is Kasey Kahne – He’s had a nice start to his one-year stint with Red Bull, and that team’s strong point has always been intermediate racetracks.
