Fresh details on the upcoming generation of the Alfa Romeo Spider have just emerged and the model in question will go on sale in late 2015, as a 2016 model year.
The 2016 Alfa Romeo Spider will be based on the next generation of the Mazda MX5 platform and its styling, signed by Marco Tencone, at Fiat’s Centro Stile, is almost completed. Pininfarina will not be involved in designing the model and its production will start in Japan, right after its official unveil. The brand new Alfa Romeo Spider is said to become a production version of the 2010 concept and the model should fit in the range with the 4C sports car, which means that its front fascia and rear end will receive some treatments.
The upcoming Alfa Romeo Spider will use the same windscreens, front bulkhead, front and rear axles and engine compartments with the next generation of the Mazda MX-5 and both drop tops will be approximately 4 meters long and 1.7 meters wide, but the Alfa Romeo vehicle should become just a few centimeters longer than its Japanese brother. The total weight will stand at approximately 1,000 kg. The engine lineup should include the 1.4L TB MultiAir, which is already available on the Giulietta, with 120 HP and 168 HP, mated to a dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission. Additional details on the 2016 Alfa Romeo Spider remain unknown and will be announced close to its debut.
