How will the new generation of the BMW M3 look like is the question asked by every enthusiast of the German brand but now we have a clue after the 2012 F30 3-Series has been announced to debut this October, coming in 9 trim levels, including a hybrid.
Thanks to the bimmerpost.com, we now have an idea of how the new generation of the M3 will look like, but just as the standard 3-Series version, BMW didn’t announce anything officially. According to the bimmerpost.com, the new M3 is expected to be powered by a V6 turbocharged engine, but our source tells us not to be surprised if the vehicle comes with the same engine as its bigger brother, the M5.
The new generation of the BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4 liter V8 engine, delivering 560 horsepower between 5.000 and 6.000 rpm, with a peak torque of 502 lb-ft available from 1.500 rpm. M5’s unit is mated to the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.
Even if the M5’s engine could be a choice for BMW’s engineers, the new M3 is most likely to be powered by a turbocharged V6, but its maximum power may be around 450 horsepower. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because the car is expected to be lighter than the previous generation of the M3.
The new generation of the BMW M3 F80 is most likely to be launched in mid 2013.
