The new generation of the Chevrolet Aveo or Sonic, as it is known in the United States, won’t come with the SS badge on it, known from its bigger brother the Camaro, but according to General Motors, it will be also offered in a sporty version, with the 1.4 liter turbo engine found on the Opel Astra.
The new generation of the Chevy Aveo / Sonic has been here for quite some time yet and it seems it will stand out from the crowd pretty soon, because unlike its previous generation, this one will be boosted by a more powerful 1.4 liter turbo engine, the same one found on the Opel Astra, which will come along with the other powerplants available for the three-door, five-door and sedan.
“We would need more air for that engine to be able to place the SS badge on it. This version isn’t being taken into consideration but we have other sporty options as a plan”, said John Buttermore, Chevrolet’s official responsible for development when he was asked about a possible Aveo / Sonic SS.
John Buttermore also announced that the 1.4 liter turbo engine from the current Opel Astra will make way under the new Sonic’s hood but its customers will have to wait for this version until 2013, when the popular low-cost vehicle will also come with a new six-speed automatic transmission.
