Mazda has officially announced the production start of the new generation MX-5 as the first deliveries of the roadster will be made this June.
The brand new Mazda MX-5 has been officially unveiled on the 3rd of September, in the United States and in Spain, and it was then introduced, one month later, at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and in Los Angeles too, in November. The model in question is now highlighted once more, this time with the company announcing its production start in Japan, at the Hiroshima facility. The roadster is in its fourth generation and the first one to get the new SkyActiv technologies from Mazda, standing out from a crowd thanks to the appealing Kodo design language, which is making it look different than its predecessors.
The 2015 Mazda MX-5 stands at 3,915 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,235 mm in height, weighing just 998 kg. This is riding on an entirely new platform and compared to its predecessor it is 105 mm shorter, 10 mm wider and 20 mm lower while the weight has dropped by almost 100 kg thanks to the use of aluminum. The base model is said to get a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine under its hood, rated at 129 HP, while the US and Canada version will be packing in a larger 2.0 liter unit, rated at 155 HP. The units will be connected to a manual shift transmission and to an automatic one, both of them with six gears.
