The German based automaker Volkswagen is planning to introduce the new generation of the Scirocco to the United States, once the model will be launched in 2015.
The announcement has been made by the Volkswagen of America’s manager of Product and Technology, Mark Gillies, who said in an interview with Auto Guide that the company is looking at future versions for the market.
“We don’t have any plans to offer this current generation Scirocco R in the U.S.… but we are open to looking at future versions of the vehicle for this market,” said Gillies. “[The Scirocco] is just not engineered for this market; it never was”, he added.
The future generation of the Volkswagen Scirocco is said to make its way onto the market sometimes in 2015, probably as a 2016 model year. The model will get a different body style and a sportier appearance, which should set it aside from the outgoing version. The new Volkswagen Scirocco is said to ride on the MQB platform and it will come with front-wheel drive, but higher grades will receive all-wheel drive. More details on the upcoming Scirocco are limited for the moment and will probably be announced close to its debut.
