The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been baptized the Zi You Guang in China, and the Asian market will be the first market across the U.S. to get a first view on the model.
According to the guys at Car News China, the Jeep Cherokee’s new name, Zi You Guang, is translated as Liberty Light, in some ways, and if this is true, it means that the model will keep the name of its predecessor, which is also called the Liberty in the North American market.
“China is the largest market for the Jeep brand outside of the U.S., and one out of every five vehicles in the mid-size SUV segment is sold in China. Hence, it just makes sense that the new Jeep Cherokee has its international debut in Shanghai”, said the Jeep chief, Mike Manley.
The new Jeep Zi You Guang will become available with two 4×4 systems in Chine, one of them with a one-speed power transfer unit and the other one with a two-speed low-range. The first one is named the Active Drive I and the second one the Active Drive II. No extra details on the Jeep Zi You Guang have been announced yet but the model will be officially presented to the public during the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, on the 20th of April.
