The South Korean based automaker Kia has confirmed the launch of the new Pro Cee’d generation, which has been set for 2013.
The new generation of the Kia Pro Cee’d will have nothing in common with the previous one and in fact the model will become a hot hatch, with an expected 200 HP coming out of its engine. The 2014 Kia Pro Cee’d is expected to be inspired by the Kia GT Concept drawn by Peter Schreyer, and the model has been recently confirmed for production, with its final version making its way onto the market next year.
“In my opinion, a sports car should be rear-wheel drive. When I was at Hyundai we tried the Coupe with front-wheel drive. It was considered sporty looking, but the driveability was different. We haven’t decided yet, but we need a certain product to help with our brand image. We have tried a couple of concept cars and found some potential in the GT. We will try a couple more in the future, starting at Geneva next year, and test the media and consumer response before choosing one”, as the Kia CEO and vice chairman, Hyoung-Keun Lee, has told Autocar.
The final production version of the 2014 Kia Pro Cee’d might be named the GT and the model is expected to receive 200 horsepower. Besides the upcoming hot hatch, the Kia GT Concept might also receive a production version, which should get a 3.3 liter V6 turbocharged petrol engine under its hood, producing a total output of 390 HP and 543 Nm of torque, sent to the rear-wheel drive though an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additional details on the two models are limited for the moment.
