The Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi has announced the introduction of a new all-wheel drive version of its popular Lancer model for the US auto market.
Even though the manufacturer is already offering all-wheel drive versions of the Lancer Ralliart and the Evolution, which are also turbocharged, the new version will be priced around 20.000 dollars, compared to the 27.000 of the Ralliart.
The Mitsubishi Lancer DE, ES and GTS variants are considered to be the most accessible naturally aspirated engines, and the SE, the new AWD version, is expected to go on sale this fall.
“We are quickly recovering from the bottom years of 2009 and 2010. We want to be getting back as quickly as possible to 100.000 units in a few years”, said the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors America, Yoichi Yakozawa.
According to Yakozawa, the auto maker expects to sell 73.000 cars by the end of the fiscal year and to increase this number to 100.000 units in the US.
