GM said yesterday in a statement it has named an automotive industry veteran as its new Opel Supervisory Board member for sales and GM Europe vice president of sales and aftersales.
Peter Christian Küspert, 52, will join Opel’s board on Nov. 1. He most recently served as managing director of automotive supplier Johann Hay Automobiltechnik, and Küspert worked at Daimler AG for nearly 20 years until 2009, including serving as head of sales and marketing in Germany for the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart brands.
“Strengthening Opel and Vauxhall is a top priority for GM,” said GM Vice Chairman Steve Girsky, who also is Opel Supervisory Board chairman, in a statement. “With our multi-billion Euro model offensive, we are taking the right approach in a challenging market. And with the sales expert Peter Christian Küspert, we will bring additional momentum to this offensive. With Duncan Aldred’s focus now solely on Vauxhall and the UK market, this further demonstrates our commitment to win in Europe.”
Küspert will replace Duncan Aldred, who had served as acting GM Europe vice president of sales and aftersales since late January following the resignation of former Volkswagen executive Alfred E. Rieck, who served in the post briefly. Aldred is returning to his position as chairman and managing director of GM’s Vauxhall brand.
