The new 308 compact vehicle will be sold for a price under the VW Golf, which is the European compact segment leader.
Peugeot will begin selling the new 308 compact vehicle at the end of September and the company said that the price will be lower than that of VW Golf. Peugeot is relying on models such as the new Citroen C4 Picasso minivan and the new-generation 308 to boost sales in the sluggish European market.
The base price for the 308 will be 16,450 euro in Germany for the gasoline model, compared with 17,175 euro for the Golf, 16,770 euro Opel Astra and 16,450 euro Ford Focus. Peugeot’s 308 diesel will start at 19,550 euro. According to JATO Dynamics the Peugeot 308 is the automaker’s second best-selling model in Europe, following the 208/207 subcompacts.
Sales of the 308 models dropped 34% to 48,641 units in the first six months of the year, reaching the 13th place in the European compact sales raking. Peugeot relies on its 308 to move upscale, as the model’s design got the “highest levels of quality at its core,” according to the company. The model’s interior design features high quality interior materials and gloss black and satin chrome detailing, giving the feel of elegance and sophistication.
