The Japanese based automaker Toyota is planning to revive the Supra model, and the legendary sports car will be offered as a hybrid.
Even if a revival for the iconic Toyota Supra model is no longer a surprise for anyone, its exterior design and powertrain are still unknown, but new rumors are saying that the new generation of the sports car will be coming as a hybrid. According to the guys over at autoexpress.co.uk, the upcoming Toyota Supra will be a hybrid. Our source is also telling us that the Japanese car manufacturer is currently testing a model powered by a 3.5 liter V6 hybrid drivetrain which is generating around 400 horsepower.
The new generation of the Toyota Supra is close to hitting the market, but even so, the carmaker is waiting to see how its newest model, the GT-86, developed together with Subaru, will be received by the public, and if everything goes according to plan, the new Supra might hit the showrooms by 2014, as a 2015 model. Besides the hybrid version, the new Toyota Supra will also be available with a 5.0 liter V8 engine, which is expected to develop around 500 HP, and if this version hits the market, it will have some serious competition from the Nissan GT-R.
