New Volkswagen Beetle was launched in Malaysia image

The new generation of the Volkswagen Beetle has just been launched in Malaysia, where the model has a base price set at RM139, 888 for the entry-level version.

According to the German based automaker, the new VW Beetle is available, for the moment, in Malaysia only with the 1.2 liter TSI turbo engine, the same one found in the Polo too, which is producing a total output of 105 PS and it has a peak torque of 175 Nm, available between 1,550 and 4,100 rpm. The unit is mated to a seven-speed DSG dual clutch transmission, which is allowing the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. The new Beetle is burning 5.9 liters of fuel every 100 km in this configuration.

The new-gen Volkswagen Beetle is 4,278 mm long, 1,808 mm wide and 1,486 mm tall, which means that it’s 152 mm linger, 84 mm wider and 12 mm lower than the New Beetle. For RM139,888, Malaysians will be able to order the mid-range Design Line, which is allowing leather upholstery, steering wheel inserts, door panels and dashboard relief pad matched in whatever color you may want, an RCD 510 touch screen audio system with a six CD changer and eight speakers, cruise control and 16-in Whirl alloy wheels, amongst others.

A People's wagon from 140 K upwards is a lot of juice and a misnomer, it should be called Reichwagon. Who in his right mind would buy that car at that insane price except those with very deep pockets. I admire the car and never once doubted its reliability and superiority over local cars.
