The new generation of the Volkswagen Phaeton is currently under development as Ulrich Hackenberg, the VW board member for Product Development, has recently announced.
The fact that the German based automaker Volkswagen is working on a new Phaeton generation is no longer a surprise for anyone but until now we didn’t get any info on this subject. According to the guys at the Inside Line, who have spoken to the company’s board member for Product Development, Ulrich Hackenberg, the new generation of the VW Phaeton is under development and the model will also be launched in the United States.
The upcoming Phaeton will get an aluminum body architecture which means that it will be lighter than its predecessor and the model will keep its premium position and target the Jaguar XJ. Unfortunately we don’t have any additional details on the new VW Phaeton generation for the moment.
As a quick reminder, the VW Phaeton is a full-size luxury sedan revealed back in 2002 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model is being produced since 2002 and it’s coming as a four-door sedan with a longitudinal front engine and 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive. The Phaeton is coming with a choice of five engines and three transmissions.
