Volkswagen has recently unveiled the brand new generation of the Golf R Cabrio, ahead of its public debut, scheduled for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month.
The German based automaker says that the brand new VW Golf R Cabrio is the fastest ever version of the popular model and this is also the first time when an R variant is being transformed into a convertible. Even if we were expecting a drop-top Golf 7 R to be unveiled in Geneva next month, the current generation of the model is actually based on the previous Golf 6, so buying it would be a compromise, considering the fact that the new generation of the model is also expected to receive an R.
The Volkswagen Golf 6 R Cabrio is coming with the same engine found on the Golf R hatchback, the 2.0 liter FSI, which is producing a total output of 265 HP. The unit is mated to a six-speed DSG transmission, which is allowing the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. The model is also getting some exterior tweaks, the R exhaust system, black side mirrors, Talladega 18-inch alloy wheels, R sport seats, new steering wheel and much more.
