The Volkswagen Jetta seems to be on top of the wave with its new Euro NCAP five-star rating, along with the IIHS Top Safety Pick trophy.
The 1.2 TSI Jetta tested at Euro NCAP earned a five-star rating, with 34 points (94 percent) for adult occupant protection, 15.2 coming from the front impact and 8 from the side impact, while in the 18 month and 3 year old child protection the car scored maximum points, most of them coming from the passenger airbag, which can be disabled allowing a rearward facing child restraint.
“The Jetta scored maximum points for its performance in the side barrier test. In the more sever pole impact, protection of the chest was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of rib deflection. The seat and head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision”, as Euro NCAP says.
The new Jetta also scored maximum points with its front bumper, which is providing good pedestrian protection.
