According to Autocar, the British luxury auto brand, Bentley will deliver a new 4.0 liter V8 engine in the near future.
According to the same source, the new V8 unit, that will be used for the first time in the new Continental GT, and will be offered in two diferent performance levels: 415bhp, single turbocharged version or as a more powerful twin-turbocharged 555bhp variant.
Many believe that this twin-turbo engine will help Bentley in its recent war to get more than 100 horsepower per liter in the new Continental GT and seeing as how it worked; a job well done by the English automaker.
“The V8 is our hedge against fuel-price spikes, carbon-dioxide-related legislation and uncertainty in the global supercar market,” says Uli Eichhorn, Bentley’s technical director to Autoweek.
The actual W12 Bentley Continental is powered by a 6-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine developing 567bhp / 423kW / 575PS at 6000 rpm and 700Nm / 516lb/ft of torque 1700 rpm.
The acceleration from 0 to 100 mph (160 km/h) takes only 10.2 seconds. with a combined cycle fuel consumption of 14.0 mpg (US) or 16.5 litres/100km, the 2012 Bentley Continental GT has a CO2 emissions level of 384 g/km.
