The German based automaker Audi has announced that it will take on BMW’s 1-Series with its new generation of the A3 which is scheduled to go on sale early next year, being available in both three-door and five-door versions.
According to the “Lord of the Rings”, the new generation of the A3, which was previewed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, will be available first in the three-door form and its exterior design has been inspired by the facelifted A5 and the all-new A6, with the larger grille being lifted from the compact sedan concept displayed by Audi at the European event mentioned above.
Audi will equip its new A3 generation with engines like the new 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 liter turbo engines, which are expected to deliver between 105 horsepower and 210 horsepower, while the diesel options will be the 1.6 and 2.0 liter TDI units, with the larger generating 170 horsepower.
Besides the “classic” engine line-up, the German automaker will also be offering all-electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, but these ones will arrive a little later, being expected in 2013. Audi didn’t announce any extra details about the new generation of the A3 but we expect the manufacturer to preview them in an official press release by the end of the year.
