The next generation of the Audi A4 will be expanded with a new member, which will be named the Vario.
The announcement hasn’t been made by the carmaker just yet, but according to the German automotive media, the new Audi A4 Vario will be based on the long wheelbase version of the Chinese-spec A4, and it will probably become a competitor for the new BMW 3-Series GT. The same sources are indicating the launch of the new Audi A4 generation in 2016 in the sedan form, and one year later for the Avant.
The future Audi A4 sedan will get a longer wheelbase compared to the outgoing version and it’s expected to lose some 100 kg. The model will be equipped with engines like the 1.4 liter TFSI with 122 HP, the 2.0 liter TFSI with 180 HP, with possible cylinder deactivation technology. Fuel consumption will drop by 0.5 L / 100 km. The diesel lineup will include the 2.0L TDI with 150 HP and 184 HP, along with a V6 TDI, with 218 HP and 272 HP.
The new Audi A4 will also receive a plug-in hybrid version, which will use the 2.0 liter TFSI and an electric motor, mated to a lithium-ion battery and an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive system will come as standard on this version. The Audi S4 will use a 3.0 liter V6 with approximately 340 HP (250 kW). Additional details on the future Audi A4 generation are limited for the moment.
